Do we dare say our beloved town of Kalispell is a music desert? Sadly, good live music here is harder to come by than in other nearby towns in Montana like the university hub of Missoula (where you can also find excellent coffee and tapas and cocktails). The two hour drive between here & Missoula is time well spent when you get to see a band as proficient at their craft
of songwriting and playing songs as North Carolina based folk artists Mandolin Orange.
Their music has been a soundtrack to our life here in Montana ever since a dear friend plugged in her iPhone and played their music in our car as we drove from Polebridge up to Bowman Lake: the perfect backdrop for the pines and river ravines. When we read Mandolin would be playing live at the Top Hat Lounge in Missoula we bought tickets immediately. Their presence and skill on the stage is so much more than just that; they are welcoming and kind, witty and down-to-earth. We felt like they could’ve played in our living room and been just as charming. Maybe we’ll invite them next time around to do just that?!
